250K are generally used for single coil pickups, 500K pots are the standard for humbuckers. A 250K gives a slightly warmer sound than a 500K, and attenuates some of the high frequencies to ground. However, if you want to keep the high frequencies, it is possible to correct this attenuation with treble bleed.
Note: If you are not sure if your guitar uses a short (3/8") or long (3/4") shaft, please check before ordering. As a general rule, this pot will fit most guitars made in the U.S. and Mexico, but it is always safer to check the bushing diameter and pot height. Fit most Gibson Les Paul's manufactured before 1977 and historic reissues.
If your guitar is an import... and you want to update the pots, you may have to enlarge the diameter of the holes on the body very slightly.
When installing the knobs, be sure to pinch the end of the shaft before installing them, this will prevent you from jamming them or knocking the shaft off the pots. If this hasn't happened to you before...
